Dhaka: State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque announced that the government will launch an investigation into alleged irregularities in the appointments at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) during the past 16 years of Awami League governance.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the state minister responded to a supplementary question posed by BNP lawmaker Mosharraf Hossain in Parliament. He confirmed that a probe committee would be established to evaluate claims of politically motivated and irregular recruitment practices since 2008. The minister emphasized that individuals recruited through partisan considerations would be identified and exposed after a comprehensive investigation.

The state minister highlighted concerns that BCB’s resources had been utilized in the past to support a faction that deprived citizens of their voting rights. He assured that officials and employees found guilty of such actions would face consequences in accordance with due process.

Earlier, Mosharraf Hossain, representing Bogura-4, raised a query about holding accountable those linked to the alleged misuse of BCB resources during the 2018 and 2024 elections. He alleged that the previous administration had favored politically affiliated and unqualified candidates in BCB recruitment processes.

Aminul Haque stated that the prior administration politicized sports, including cricket, which contributed to stagnation in the sports sector. He noted that the current government is committed to depoliticizing sports, aligning with the Prime Minister’s directives.

The state minister also acknowledged concerns about the personal wealth of certain corrupt BCB officials. He mentioned that he would request the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to provide any pertinent investigation findings to the ministry to ensure transparency.
