Bandarban: The district administration in Bandarban has initiated a significant safety measure by opening 220 shelter centres across seven upazilas. This action aims to prevent incidents related to the ongoing rain, particularly landslides.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the region has been experiencing intermittent downpours since Thursday night, influenced by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal. The shelters are distributed as follows: 46 in Bandarban Sadar, 28 in Ruma, 19 in Rowangchhari, 15 in Thanchi, 55 in Lama, 15 in Alikadam, and 42 in Naikhongchhari.
The district administration has also established a control room to assist residents, accessible via the mobile number 01309744923. Residents living in vulnerable hilly areas are advised to relocate to these shelters, with the administration conducting public announcements through miking to ensure awareness.
A police team, led by an additional superintendent of police, has been formed to provide support to affected individuals. Additionally, vehicular movement on the Lama-Alikadam road was temporarily halted in the morning due to a fallen tree obstructing the path.
