Magura: Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury today emphasized that ensuring quality education is the primary objective of the current government, noting that efforts to fulfill promises made to the public have commenced within just two months.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks while addressing the annual sports, cultural, and prize distribution ceremony at Kazi Shalima Haque Mohila Degree College in Mohammadpur upazila of Magura. He highlighted the challenges faced by the education system, pointing out that a destructive force had systematically undermined the country’s educational and constitutional institutions. This force misled students with distorted historical narratives and conspired to devalue merit, causing setbacks for the nation.
Discussing reforms in the education system, the minister recalled a past directive that allowed 98 percent of students to pass without examinations, a trend the current government is actively working to reverse in order to restore genuine educational standards. He further mentioned plans to double the salaries and allowances of teachers to enhance their quality of life, urging educators to be more accountable, attentive to students, and well-prepared for classes.
Earlier, the minister received a warm and colorful reception at the college premises. The event was presided over by Newaz Halima Arli, President of the college Governing Body. Special guests included Magura Zila Parishad Administrator Ali Ahmed, Joint Conveners of Magura district unit BNP Advocate Rokonuzzaman Khan and Advocate Mithun Roy Chowdhury, and Mohammadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Muhammad Shahnur Zaman. The minister concluded the event by distributing prizes to winners of the annual sports and cultural competitions.
