Chattogram: Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain has assured that the government will not undertake any actions regarding the country’s primary sea port that could jeopardize national interests. He addressed journalists at his office, highlighting the ongoing inquiries into individuals involved in the current disruptions at Chattogram Port.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operational disruptions at the port are being actively addressed by the authorities. The adviser emphasized the ministry’s commitment to actions that benefit both the port and the nation. He urged all stakeholders to prioritize the port’s functionality in the national interest, noting the adverse effects on the general public due to the existing situation.
Sakhawat also expressed concerns about potential conspiracies by some traders to inflate commodity prices ahead of Ramadan by hoarding goods in offshore lighter vessels. In response, he stated that mobile courts are being conducted daily by the Department of Shipping, with all relevant agencies mobilized to tackle such illegal activities.
