Dhaka: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given a nod to a proposal for the direct procurement of Vitamin A capsules from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). This decision aims to ensure an uninterrupted supply of the essential supplements across Bangladesh. The recommendation was made during the 15th meeting of the committee this year, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, at the Cabinet Division Conference Room in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Health Services Division put forward the proposal, which sought policy approval to secure Vitamin A capsules, specifically the 200,000 IU and 100,000 IU doses, through UNICEF’s direct procurement method. This approach is intended to maintain a consistent supply of the supplements crucial for public health.
In addition to the Vitamin A procurement, the committee also reviewed a proposal from the Ministry of Shipping. This proposal recommended policy approval for the post-facto appointment of the current contractor to operate the New Mooring Container Terminal and its overflow yard under the Chittagong Port Authority. The agreement with Chittagong Dry Dock Limited had expired, and the proposal permits the existing contractor to continue operations for six months or until a new contractor is appointed, maintaining the same rates and conditions.
