Natore: A court here today sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife in Gurudaspur upazila of the district in 2018. The court also fined convict Farhad Hossain, 26, Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail. Judge Saiful Islam of Natore Additional District and Sessions Judge's Third Court pronounced the verdict this afternoon. In the same case, the court sentenced the victim's father-in-law Fazlur Rahman, 55, and mother-in-law Fahima Begum, 47, to two years' imprisonment each and fined them Taka 5,000 each for concealing information and evidence related to the incident. Natore Judge Court Public Prosecutor Advocate Ruhul Amin Talukder confirmed the matter.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Farhad of Pipla village in Gurudaspur, used to torture his wife after their marriage for dowry. On February 15, 2018, Moriam's father learned through a neighbour's mobile phone that his daughter had died. He rushed to his daughter's in-laws' house and found her body lying on the floor of a bedroom before informing the police. At that time, Moriam's husband and in-laws were reportedly absconding. Police later recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for autopsy.
The following evening, Moriam's father Amirul Mondal filed a murder case against Farhad Hossain and his parents Fazlur Rahman and Fahima Begum. Police subsequently arrested the accused and sent them to jail. After completing the investigation, police submitted a report to the court against the accused. Following examination of the evidence and testimonies, the judge pronounced the verdict in the presence of the accused.
