Dhaka: A Dhaka court has placed former army officer and former Member of Parliament Masud Uddin Chowdhury on a six-day fresh remand in connection with a case over embezzlement of Tk 24,000 crore and human trafficking. The order was passed by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam when sub-inspector Raihanur Rahman, the investigating officer, presented Masud Uddin in court with a seven-day remand plea following the completion of his previous five-day remand.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Masud Uddin, who is the Managing Director of 5M International Ltd, was initially placed on a five-day remand last Tuesday. His arrest was executed by a team of DB police from Baridhara late on Monday night. The former MP is currently facing multiple legal challenges with a total of 11 cases filed against him, and several complaints are under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
DB chief Shafiqul Islam highlighted the gravity of the charges against Masud, which include cases filed at Banani, Paltan, Kotwali, Mirpur, and Hatirjheel police stations. The allegations span serious offenses such as murder, attempted murder, human trafficking, and money laundering. In the human trafficking case, Masud is the third accused among a list of 101 individuals. The case was initiated by Altab Khan, proprietor of Afia Overseas, who filed it on September 3 at Paltan Police Station.
