Denmark: Denmark and Bangladesh today strengthened their cooperation on sustainable and safe food production in Bangladesh by signing a government-to-government cooperation agreement in the capital. “With this strategic sector cooperation, Denmark supports Bangladesh to ensure safe and efficient milk production in the country with the aim of becoming more self-sufficient in milk production,” said a press release issued by the Danish embassy here.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the signing of the project document between the Department of Livestock Services and Danish Veterinary and Food Administration marks a significant step towards enhancing collaboration and support in capacity building. This partnership is expected to drive growth, improve industry standards, and foster innovation in the sector, as noted by the Danish embassy.
Danish Ambassador Christian Brix Moller emphasized the importance of global food production that ensures safe and sustainable food products benefiting both consumers and farmers. The signing has strengthened the commitment of both nations to maintain close cooperation in the food and agricultural sector, further solidifying their longstanding diplomatic relationship. Ensuring safe and sustainable food production in Bangladesh has been a central focus of this collaboration.
Dairy production is a key economic activity in Bangladesh, providing supplementary income to 3.6 million households. Therefore, it is essential to offer guidance and support to farmers to enhance milk yield and performance. The project aims to bolster the capacity of authorities working on sustainable and resource-efficient dairy production.
As part of the partnership, Danish experts will provide training to the Bangladeshi livestock extension service, focusing on feed, animal health, biosecurity, and animal welfare in dairy production. The Danish project partner is the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA), and the Bangladeshi partners include Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA), Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), Directorate General Drug Administration (DGDA), and Department of Livestock Services (DLS).
