Cox’s Bazar District Council to Preserve Graves of July Martyrs

Cox’s bazar: The Cox’s Bazar District Council has initiated efforts to preserve the graves of martyrs who lost their lives during the ‘Mass Uprising’ in July-August 2024. Talking to BSS, officials emphasized the importance of this effort to present the martyrs’ sacrifices to future generations.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, four individuals were martyred in the Cox’s Bazar district during the uprising. They include Mohammad Wasim Akram from Pekua upazila, Ahsan Habib from Chakaria upazila, Tanvir Siddiqui from Maheshkhali upazila, and Nurul Amin from Eidgah upazila. The district council has completed the construction, cleaning, and maintenance of the graves.



Assistant Engineer Mohammad Saifuddin of the Cox’s Bazar District Council stated that uniform structures are being erected over the four martyrs’ graves, consistent with others across the country. Ceramic bricks and Italian marble plaques are being used for these structures, and discussions have been held with the martyrs’ families.



Saifuddin noted that plaques are being placed in schools associated with the martyrs, and Blackthorn trees will be planted. He expects the grave preservation work to conclude within the next two to three days. An initial budget of Taka 3.52 lakh has been allocated for this project, with provisions for additional funding if required.



Martyr Wasim Akram’s father, Shafiul Alam, expressed appreciation for the government’s initiative, highlighting its significance in honoring the martyrs’ sacrifices and educating future generations. Chief Executive Officer of the District Council, Mohammad Al-Maruf, remarked that preserving these graves is a moral duty that honors the martyrs’ contributions to freedom and democracy.
