Country Has Sufficient Cattle Stock for Eid-ul-Azha, Says Fisheries and Livestock Adviser

Dhaka: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter has assured that the country holds a sufficient stock of sacrificial animals to meet the demand for the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha, eliminating the need to import cattle from neighboring countries.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Farida Akhter made this statement following her visit to the cattle market at Dhaka Polytechnic Institute ground in Tejgaon on Tuesday evening. She emphasized that law enforcement agencies are maintaining strict surveillance to prevent illegal entry of cattle from bordering areas.



Veterinary doctors from the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) are actively working at cattle markets nationwide to ensure the health and safety of animals, she stated. Farida also highlighted that cattle traders have been instructed to avoid harmful methods for fattening animals, aligning with the government’s commitment to safe and ethical livestock practices.



Farida noted an improvement in the overall management of cattle markets in the capital this year compared to previous years. The meeting on the occasion was presided over by DLS Director General Dr. M Abu Sufian. Other notable attendees included Dr. M Jashim Uddin, Project Director of the Livestock and Dairy Development Project, DLS Director (Admin) Dr. M Baijer Rahman, Director (Production) Dr. ABM Khaleduzzaman, Director (Artificial Reproduction) M Shahjahan, along with senior officials and intern veterinary doctors from various universities.
