Jhenaidah: Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman today emphasized that the spirit of the July Uprising is directed towards establishing a society free from discrimination. He expressed this view during a commemoration and Eid material distribution event for the families of the martyrs and injured of the July 2024 mass uprising, held at Johan Dream Valley Park auditorium.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md. Asaduzzaman criticized the Awami League, accusing it of establishing fascism through means such as disappearances, murders, legal manipulation, tender trading, and the destruction of the electoral system. He warned that if political leaders and activists follow the path of the Awami League, history will not forgive them.

The Attorney General further alleged that under Sheikh Hasina’s government, around 700 people disappeared since 2008, and approximately 4,500 people have been killed without trial over the past 16 years. He noted that those responsible are now fleeing the country.

Md. Asaduzzaman urged those who have gained the opportunity to speak and engage in politics without fear after the July Uprising to avoid following the Awami League’s path. He reiterated that history would not forgive those who choose that route.

He also highlighted that since the current government took power, there have been no new victims of disappearance, and the police have not filed any missing person cases. He stressed that the spirit of the July Uprising is about building a just and discrimination-free society in Bangladesh.

The event was addressed by several notable figures, including District BNP President Advocate MA Majid, District President of Gana Adhikar Parishad lecturer Sakhawat Hossain, District President of the Islamic Andolan HM Momtazul Karim, President of the Jhenaidah Chamber of Commerce Md. Moazzem Hossain, and Consultant of Sadar Hospital Dr. Md. Monirul Islam. The central coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement chaired the event.
