London: Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon has emphasized that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman’s Each One, Teach One policy laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s progress in literacy. He made these remarks at a roundtable discussion titled ‘Teachers’ Continuous Professional Development,’ held during the Education World Forum 2026 in London, as per a press release.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister’s Education Affairs Adviser Mahdi Amin was also present at the meeting. The event was attended by Michael Connolly, Director of English and School Education at the British Council, along with education ministers and senior officials from various Pakistani provinces, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh.

During the discussion, Pakistani ministers inquired about Bangladesh’s significant progress in literacy rates despite having a similar economic and social context to Pakistan’s. In response, Milon attributed this success to the visionary implementation of the mass education program introduced by Ziaur Rahman.

Mahdi Amin further elaborated on the current government’s plans to ensure quality education in Bangladesh, highlighting the ‘One Teacher, One Tab’ initiative designed to enhance teachers’ technological skills.

The roundtable provided a platform for high-level participants to exchange experiences on teachers’ professional development. It also addressed common challenges in South Asia’s education sector and discussed modernizing future education systems, exploring opportunities for bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
