Coast Guard Captures Nine Pirates in Cox’s Bazar

Dhaka: Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested nine pirates, including their leader Jahangir, 28, from Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar. A press release from the coast guard stated that arms and ammunition were seized during the operation.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Coast Guard successfully rescued four fishermen who had been held captive by the pirates on a hijacked fishing boat. The fishing vessel, named ‘FB Mayer Dua-3,’ was attacked near Sonadia Char under the jurisdiction of Maheshkhali Police Station in Cox’s Bazar.



The Coast Guard received information about the piracy incident through the emergency service number 16111. Acting on this tip-off, the Coast Guard stations in Cox’s Bazar and Maheshkhali launched a rescue operation in the affected area.



During the search of the hijacked boat, the Coast Guard team recovered three locally made firearms, four rounds of live ammunition, and six locally crafted weapons. Legal proceedings against the detained pirates are currently in progress, while steps concerning the rescued fishermen, the fishing boat, and the confiscated items are being processed.
