Khulna: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today announced the initiation of a nationwide cleanliness campaign, following directives from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. This initiative is part of proactive measures to prevent dengue and other diseases, with efforts already in motion across Khulna city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the campaign involves regular cleanliness activities and special area-focused drives held every Saturday. Manju was speaking as the chief guest at the launch event of a cleanliness drive at the Khulna Medical College campus, a programme initiated by the college authorities to combat mosquito-borne diseases.
Emphasizing community involvement, Manju highlighted the influx of patients from various districts seeking treatment at the hospital, necessitating a clean and healthy environment. He noted the relatively better measles situation in Khulna, while urging local physicians to adopt preventive measures to address potential outbreaks.
Manju also underlined the need for increased tree planting in open spaces within the college and hospital grounds to improve the environment. The event was presided over by Principal Prof Dr Golam Masud, with contributions from KCC Administrative Officer Molla Maruf Rashid, Estate Officer Gazi Salauddin, and Senior License Officer Md Moniruzzaman Rahim. Teachers and students from the medical college also attended the event.
Vice-Principal Dr Md Amanul Islam delivered the welcome speech, and Dr Md Akramuzzaman moderated the proceedings.
