Baku: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is set to speak at the Opening Session of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit during the Conference of the Parties-29 (COP29) tomorrow. The summit, which brings together global leaders to address pressing climate issues, began yesterday in Baku, Azerbaijan, and marks a significant event in the international climate change agenda.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chief Adviser’s press wing confirmed that Prof Yunus will deliver his speech between 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm Bangladesh time. Prof Yunus, who is on a four-day tour to participate in the climate conference, spent the opening day in Baku engaged in discussions with at least 20 top leaders from various countries and heads of international agencies.
Among the notable meetings, Prof Yunus met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Turkish First Lady. He also held discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahiyan on the sidelines of the summit. Additional meetings incl
uded interactions with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, the President of the Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu, the Prime Minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay, and the President of Nepal, Ramchandra Paudel.
Prof Yunus’s engagements also extended to the Prime Minister of Belgium, the President of Ghana, the Prime Minister of Bosnia Herzegovina, the President of Rwanda, the Prime Minister of Albania, the President of Montenegro, the Prime Minister of Barbados, Vice Presidents of Brazil and Iran, as well as the President of FIFA and the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
In addition to these diplomatic engagements, Ahmed Eltayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al Sharif, met with Prof Yunus at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Baku earlier today. The Chief Adviser arrived in Baku via a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at approximately 5:15 pm local time on Monday, setting the stage for his active participation in COP29.
