Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus today emphasized the importance of reviving the lost glory of jute to boost the nation’s economy. “When you talk about jute, it is an emotional issue for Bangladesh. This country is a unique country, which produces enormous natural fibers over many years,” he stated during the China-Bangladesh Conference on Investment and Trade at the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) office in Agargaon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the chief adviser highlighted the current limited use of jute as merely a material for making sacks, expressing disappointment over its unfulfilled potential in environmental and planetary protection. He urged for a collective effort to elevate the status of jute in economic programs, proposing that Bangladesh, a country renowned for Jamdani and other fabrics, could significantly expand the applications of jute.

Professor Yunus also reminisced about the lost glory of Muslin, noting that Dhaka muslin was once the most valuable fabric globally. His speech was part of a broader dialogue that included insights from Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Went and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, who also addressed the conference attendees.
