Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has urged the transformation of the country’s post offices into platforms for economic inclusion and development. He emphasized the urgency of this transformation beyond their traditional role as message exchange centers, in a message issued ahead of ‘World Post Day’ to be observed on October 9.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the chief adviser highlighted that the Directorate of Posts is not just a government service provider but also a long-standing social institution. With its extensive network, post offices possess the potential to reach marginalized communities across society. Professor Yunus noted that the interim government is working on modernizing the Directorate of Posts to integrate it into broader social and economic activities.

He envisions the post offices evolving into effective one-stop centers for local economies, expanding beyond conventional postal services. The chief adviser suggested that post offices be developed as community-based economic hubs, offering diverse facilities such as e-commerce support, digital financial services, and channels for the transportation and marketing of goods for small entrepreneurs. Additionally, he sees them as vital points for information exchange benefiting farmers and marginalized populations.

Professor Yunus called for the cooperation of all officers, employees of the Directorate of Posts, and the citizens to support this transformative journey. He expressed his satisfaction that ‘World Post Day’ is celebrated with significance in Bangladesh, as it is in other parts of the world, and conveyed his best wishes for the success of the events planned for the occasion.
