Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Central Election Steering Committee spokesman and BNP Chairman’s adviser Mahdi Amin asserted at a press conference that a mass movement has been created in favor of the ‘Paddy Sheaf,’ ensuring the BNP’s absolute victory if free and fair elections are conducted.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahdi Amin emphasized that the election campaign was scheduled from January 22 to 7:30 am today. During this period, continuous reports from local and international media, surveys by various reliable organizations, and the spontaneous and large gatherings at BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman’s election rallies indicate that the BNP holds the highest level of public support.

Speaking at the BNP Election Steering Committee office in Gulshan, Amin accused a certain party of spreading propaganda against the BNP. He alleged that the party is resorting to violent politics, misusing religion for political gain, and preparing for fraudulent voting. These tactics, he claimed, demonstrate their political bankruptcy.

Amin criticized the rival party’s campaign, which he said capitalizes on an alleged anti-corruption stance while violating the electoral code of conduct by offering money to lure voters, including children. This, he stated, is evidence of their alienation from the public and political failure.

He highlighted a viral video showing the party distributing money to purchase votes, which has sparked widespread criticism. Amin questioned the morality of a party that speaks against corruption but attempts to buy votes, even in its leader’s constituency.

Citing Rule-4 of the electoral code of conduct, Amin stressed that no political party or candidate should provide or promise donations or gifts during the pre-election period. He called for legal action against such violations, drawing the attention of the Election Commission (EC) and Returning Officers.

Amin further alleged that a candidate from the rival party in Khulna-1 constituency was caught distributing money to voters, as reported by various media. He accused the party of planning to buy votes nationwide, sensing their impending defeat.

Additionally, Amin claimed that the rival party is collecting voter IDs and financial information to implement their alleged plans. He reported an attack on local BNP leaders by the rival party’s activists in Bogura-4 constituency, resulting in injuries and property damage.

Mahdi Amin urged immediate intervention by local authorities, including returning officers and law enforcement agencies, to address these incidents.
