NARSINGDI: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan asserted that the BNP’s demand for elections is aimed at restoring the people’s right to vote, not for the party’s own gain. He emphasized the need for fair and impartial elections following necessary reforms to end what he described as a 15-year period of disenfranchisement for the new generation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Moyeen Khan made these remarks during a memorial meeting and Doa-mahfil at the Palash Upazila Auditorium in Narsingdi, commemorating the 40th death anniversary of his father, Abdul Momen Khan, a former food minister and founding BNP member. He reiterated the party’s commitment to serving the people, underscoring the belief in the fundamental right to vote.
Dr. Moyeen Khan criticized the current electoral process, stating that a legitimate parliament cannot be formed through elections involving faux candidates, nighttime voting, and the forcible snatching of ballot boxes. He w
arned that any attempts by what he termed ‘fascists’ to return to power and establish a dictatorship would be futile.
The memorial meeting, chaired by Roksana Khandaker, Moyeen Khan’s wife and Chairperson of Millennium University, was attended by local BNP leaders and activists. Mahreen Khan, the daughter of Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, also addressed the gathering, echoing the call for electoral reforms.
