DHAKA: Dhaka University Cultural Union organized an exhibition and a musical soiree to commemorate the 46th death anniversary of renowned mystic singer and song composer Ukil Munshi. The event, held at the university's Teacher-Student Centre, featured a documentary screening, musical performances, and speeches advocating for cultural harmony. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event included a screening of filmmaker Anarya Murshid's documentary, "Ukil Munshi: Birohi Bhaber Somrat," produced by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The program was chaired by Mahbub Khalashi, president of the Dhaka University Cultural Union, and featured addresses by poet, writer, and philosopher Farhad Mazhar and singer Kafil Ahmed. Both speakers emphasized the importance of a cultural revolution to combat religious fundamentalism and extremism and to establish religious harmony. Singer Kafil Ahmed remarked on the collective vision of a new country free from fundamentalism and extremism, highlighting the need for unity a nd peace. The event saw performances of Ukil Munshi's compositions by a diverse group of artists, including Akash Gayen, Shah Muhammad Shipon, Khokon Chishti, and others. Born in 1918, Abdul Haque Akondo, known in the music world as Ukil Munshi, composed over a thousand songs before his death on August 6, 1978. His legacy continues to inspire efforts toward cultural and religious cohesion.
