Dhaka: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will support FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia, son of the late Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman, as he embarks on a series of prestigious international chess tournaments.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tahsin will participate in three tournaments this year: the World Junior Under-20 Chess Championship in Petrovac, Montenegro, the Asian Zonal Chess Championship in Sri Lanka, and the Grand Masters and International Masters Events in Hungary. The BCB announced in a statement today that they will provide financial assistance of Tk. 15.8 lakh to cover the costs associated with his participation in these tournaments.

Nineteen-year-old Tahsin is a rising star in the chess arena and is committed to building upon the legacy of his father. With a current FIDE rating of 2323, he aims to boost his rating points and pursue an International Master (IM) title through these international competitions.

BCB president Faruque Ahmed expressed the board’s enthusiasm for Tahsin’s endeavor, stating, “Tahsin is a very talented chess player, and it is a pleasure to see him following in his legendary father’s footsteps. We want to support his quest for further success and excellence as he pursues an IM title with an eye on becoming a GM in the future. The BCB is proud to be a part of Tahsin’s journey.”

Ahmed further emphasized that this support is also a way of expressing gratitude to GM Ziaur Rahman for his contributions to chess and sports in Bangladesh.
