Bangladesh, Australia Discuss Possibility of LNG Supply and Bilateral Cooperation

Dhaka: Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle met with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Tuesday to explore the potential for liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply from Australia to Bangladesh to address the country’s energy needs. The discussion also delved into possible bilateral cooperation in agriculture, climate change, and the enhancement of bilateral trade and investment.

According to United News of Bangladesh, an Australian Parliamentary delegation led by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Milton Dick, MP, is visiting Bangladesh this week. The Australian High Commissioner briefed the State Minister on the delegation’s visit during their meeting at the ministry.

During their stay, the Australian delegation is scheduled to meet with the Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, MP. They will also have a guided tour of the Parliament building and the July Revolution Memorial Museum. Additionally, the delegation is expected to observe the proceedings of the parliament, as stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The State Minister emphasized the importance of cooperation in skill development for the labor force and women empowerment. She expressed optimism that this visit would inject new momentum into Bangladesh-Australia bilateral relations, particularly following the establishment of the new government.
