East London: The real reason behind the death of Arafat Rahman, the youngest son of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and former Premier Begum Khaleda Zia, will be uncovered, stated BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain. He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a doa mahfil organized by the Arafat Rahman Koko Memorial Trust at a restaurant in East London.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Zahid, who also serves as Khaleda Zia’s personal physician, mentioned that Arafat Rahman was subjected to both physical and mental torture. He emphasized that Koko’s death could not be attributed to natural causes, and efforts are ongoing to unveil the mystery surrounding it. Dr. Zahid assured that BNP would pursue legal action against those found involved in Koko’s death.
Highlighting Arafat Rahman’s contributions, Dr. Zahid noted that although he was not a political figure, he played a significant role in elevating Bangladesh cricket to a global stature due to his organizational skills. He warned against attributing the success of Bangladesh cricket to anyone else, as it would distort history.
Dr. Zahid expressed gratitude towards the UK public for their continued support to the Zia family over the past 15 and a half years. He recounted the historic moments when many people heard Major Zia’s voice during the Liberation War, asserting that Ziaur Rahman was the one who declared independence when others chose to flee or surrender.
He further elaborated on Ziaur Rahman’s leadership during the war, mentioning the formation of the Z Force and his role as the first Sector Commander. Dr. Zahid praised Ziaur Rahman for freeing the nation from uncertainty on November 7, leading with the people’s mandate and elevating the country to a respectable position in a short tenure.
He concluded by recalling the sacrifices made by many for today’s Bangladesh, urging people not to create divisions and to respect those who have fought for democracy. The event also saw speeches from UK BNP President and Chairperson’s Adviser MA Malek, UK BNP General Secretary Koysor M Ahmed, Arafat Rahman Koko Memorial Trust Coordinator Abu Naser Sheikh, and UK BNP leader Shafraz Sharfur.
