Dhaka: Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) today paid deep tribute to the Army officers who were killed in the 2009 mutiny at the then Bangladesh Rifles (now Border Guard Bangladesh) headquarters in Pilkhana. Marking the National Shahid Sena Dibash, AB Party Chairman Mojibur Rahman Manju and Secretary General Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad, in a joint statement today said the Pilkhana massacre remains a dark chapter in the nation’s history.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the statement highlighted that fifty-seven army officers, who were on duty after taking an oath to protect the country, were killed in the incident, causing shock and grief nationwide. The leaders emphasized that the day serves as a time for remembrance, self-reflection, and a renewed commitment to national values.
The AB Party leaders called for the establishment of a just, accountable, and discrimination-free state system, drawing inspiration from the sacrifices made by the martyrs. Referring to the investigation commission’s report, they claimed that the killings were the result of a conspiracy involving the then government as well as domestic and foreign actors.
They stressed the importance of fully disclosing the truth, bringing those responsible to justice, and implementing necessary institutional reforms to prevent future recurrences of such incidents. In their statement, the AB Party leaders also prayed for the eternal peace of the martyred officers and expressed sympathy for their bereaved families.
