Mirpur: Primary and Mass Education Adviser Prof Dr Bidhan Ranjon Ray Poddar today asserted that a flourishing and balanced state could not be achieved by neglecting the education and health sectors. Speaking at a discussion held at the Primary Teachers Training Institute in the city’s Mirpur area, he emphasized the essential nature of health and education as fundamental rights.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion was organized by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education to commemorate the great Independence and National Day 2025. Dr Bidhan highlighted that health should be considered a right, not a choice, and education must be universal. He stressed that these sectors are acknowledged by the Constitution and should be implemented in practical life, underscoring the lack of alternatives if the country aims to become happy and prosperous.
The event was chaired by Abu Taher Md Masud Rana, Secretary to the Primary and Mass Education Ministry. Other notable speakers included Director General of the Compulsory Primary Education Inspection Unit and Additional Secretary Md Sakhawat Hossain, Director General of the Primary Education Directorate Abu Nur Md Shamsuzzaman, Additional Director General Atiqur Rahman, Director General of the Non-Formal Education Bureau Deb Brato Chakraborty, Director of the Children Welfare Trust Suraiya Khan, and PTI Instructor Abu Bakar Siddiq.
Dr Bidhan cited China as an example of a nation that has achieved significant economic development by prioritizing education and public health. He noted that these fields are not reserved for a specific segment of the population but are assets of the state and its people.
