Feni:State Minister for Water Resources Forhad Hossain Azad conducted an inspection on Monday to review preparations for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's anticipated visit to Feni. The inspection included an evaluation of the venue for a planned roadside public meeting.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Minister Forhad visited various sites including Kheya Ghat in Parshuram upazila, areas along the Muhuri River, and the proposed meeting location. He engaged in discussions with relevant officials regarding the overall readiness for the Prime Minister's visit.
The state minister noted the enthusiasm among the residents of Parshuram and surrounding areas for the visit. He emphasized that all departments are coordinating efforts to ensure the visit proceeds smoothly and safely.
During his visit, Forhad highlighted the significance of the Muhuri-Kahua flood control and drainage project. This initiative by the Ministry of Water Resources aims to tackle persistent issues of flooding, waterlogging, and river erosion in the river basin. The project's implementation is expected to improve the livelihoods, agriculture, and business activities of people living near the riverbanks. It also aims to protect lives, properties, and agricultural lands from flood damage.
The project has an approved budget of Tk 1,542 crore. Minister Forhad instructed officials to prioritize quality, environmental considerations, and local interests during the project's execution. He also stressed the importance of sustainable water management, considering local residents' needs and perspectives.
In discussions with local journalists, the minister stated that the Prime Minister's visit is significant for Feni's residents. He reiterated that the flood control project could address long-standing flooding and waterlogging challenges, stabilizing agricultural production, transport, and local commerce.
Feni-1 MP Munshi Rafiqul Alam, Feni-2 MP Joynal Abdin, Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Mahbubul Karim, and officials from the Bangladesh Water Development Board were present during the minister's visit.
