Dhaka:A Dhaka court has once more placed former Officer-in-Charge of Cantonment police station Md Rakibul Hasan on a two-day remand in connection with a sedition case. The case involves allegations of spreading anti-state and provocative statements on social media.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the order for remand was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ishrat Jahan after DB inspector Jehad Hossain presented Rakibul Hasan to the court with a request for a three-day remand.
Previously, on September 24, the court had put Rakibul on a five-day remand relating to the same case. He had been arrested by police from Rajarbagh in the capital.
Rakibul Hasan was removed from his position as OC of the Cantonment police station on September 17 and reassigned to the DMP headquarters. This action followed the viral spread of an audio clip on social media in which he allegedly criticized the government, administration, Bangladesh Army, and the police force. Subsequently, he was taken into custody by the Detective Branch of police.
