Dhaka: The Ministry of Commerce has formally permitted sulfuric acid imports to mitigate supply volatility and ensure long-term equilibrium within the domestic industrial market. This decision comes as a strategic move to address the concerns of the industrial sector and maintain the steady flow of essential chemicals required for various manufacturing processes.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the permission followed urgent appeals from private sector stakeholders who highlighted the need for immediate action to prevent disruptions in industrial production. The policy adjustment is a result of extensive consultations with industrial entrepreneurs, who had formally petitioned the government, emphasizing a looming deficit in the local market.

The introduction of sulfuric acid imports is expected to suppress inflationary pressures and provide manufacturers with the predictability required for uninterrupted operations. This regulatory intervention underscores the government’s proactive approach in maintaining price stabilization across essential industrial chemicals, a critical factor in ensuring that production remains viable despite the shifting dynamics of the global supply chain.
