Jashore: In the run-up to the 13th national parliament election, BNP candidate from Jashore-3 (Sadar) constituency Anindya Islam Amit has pledged to establish a 500-bed medical college hospital in Jashore to improve healthcare services for local residents.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in an exclusive interview, Amit emphasized that although Jashore has a medical college, the absence of a full-fledged medical college hospital has long been a concern for the people of the district. Amit expressed his intent to fulfill this need, stating, “I want to establish a 500-bed medical college hospital as per the desire of the people.” Additionally, he plans to complete the incomplete coronary care unit (CCU) at Jashore General Hospital, aiming to prevent residents from needing to travel to Dhaka or Khulna for heart treatment.
Amit, deeply involved in BNP politics, has remained active in street movements during challenging times for the party, facing over 50 cases and serving jail time multiple times. He has played a significant role in strengthening the party’s activities in Khulna and is particularly popular among the youth. Currently, he serves as the Khulna Divisional Organizing Secretary of the BNP Central Committee. His late father, Tariqul Islam, was a member of the BNP’s standing committee and served as a minister during BNP-led governments, setting high expectations for Amit among party leaders and activists.
Discussing his election promises, Amit expressed a desire to pursue politics based on amity, harmony, and coexistence. He also pledged to create a safe city free from terrorism, drugs, and juvenile gang violence, alongside improving healthcare facilities in Jashore. Regarding adherence to the election code of conduct, Amit stated that candidates are well aware of the Election Commission’s rules, and workers are being guided through warnings and counseling to stay within the rules.
Amit also shared BNP’s stance on the July Charter referendum, highlighting the party’s support for reforms. He mentioned the 2023 reform proposals outlined by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and stated BNP’s position in favor of ‘yes’ in the upcoming referendum. He urged the interim government to ensure a level playing field for all parties, allowing voters to cast their ballots in a festive, fear-free, and peaceful environment.
Six candidates are contesting in the Jashore-3 constituency for the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad polls scheduled for February 12. Amit is contesting with his party’s electoral symbol ‘Dhaner Shish’ (Sheaf of Paddy). The other candidates include Muhammad Shoaib Hossain of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Md. Khabir Gazi of Jatiya Party, Md. Nizamuddin Amit of Jatiya Ganatantrik Party, Md. Rashed Khan of Communist Party Bangladesh, and Md. Abdul Quader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
