Thakurgaon: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today alleged that a significant conspiracy is underway to destabilize the nation. Fakhrul expressed these concerns while addressing a gathering of Islamic scholars at the Human Welfare Council Training Centre on Goreya Road.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul highlighted the country’s precarious situation, characterized by rumors, confusion, and movements. He expressed concerns about hidden conspiracies aimed at creating instability. He urged vigilance to prevent any regression into a period of turmoil.

Fakhrul emphasized the importance of the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, cautioning against efforts to derail it. He called for unity and warned against internal divisions that could be exploited by conspirators to harm the nation.

During his address to the Ulemas, Fakhrul remarked on the election’s significance in determining future governance. He accused efforts of being made to undermine the electoral process. He criticized the destruction of democratic institutions, economic weakening, and banking sector corruption over the past 15 years.

He shared his personal experiences of being imprisoned 11 times for advocating for democracy and defending Islamic scholars. He recalled a time of fear when people were hesitant to move freely, fearing arrest and accusations of militancy.

Reflecting on historical context, Fakhrul noted that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was the first to include “Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim” in the Constitution, asserting BNP’s commitment to Islamic values. He dismissed allegations against BNP opposing Qur’an and Sunnah-based laws.

Fakhrul described Islam as a peaceful religion and expressed BNP’s desire for a peaceful election to build a new Bangladesh. He denounced propaganda against BNP despite its role in preserving religious values and culture.

Referring to past events, Fakhrul alleged that numerous students were killed during the 2024 mass uprising and criticized the treatment of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia during her imprisonment.

He recounted the limited scope for discussing Islam during Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s rule, contrasting it with Ziaur Rahman’s efforts to elevate Islamic scholars and promote Muslim unity.

Regarding BNP’s election manifesto, Fakhrul promised monthly allowances for mosque imams, khatibs, and muazzins to improve their status and living conditions. He also paid tribute to martyrs of the July-August movement and sought prayers for Khaleda Zia’s recovery.

At the meeting, Fakhrul announced his candidacy for the Thakurgaon-1 constituency in the upcoming election. District BNP general secretary Poigam Ali, Maulana Khalilur Rahman, and Maulana Hafez Rashid were also present and spoke at the event.
