Dhaka: Interim government’s former adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan today stated that the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to the country will inject fresh momentum into Bangladesh’s democratic advancement and the establishment of people’s rights. “I hope that Tarique Rahman’s return to the homeland will inject new momentum into Bangladesh’s democratic advancement and the establishment of people’s rights,” he said on a Facebook post this evening.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Asif Mahmud emphasized that the homecoming was not merely the return of a political leader but a moment deeply connected with democracy and the aspirations of the people. The former adviser noted that despite remaining abroad for a prolonged period, Tarique Rahman stayed emotionally and ideologically connected with his party, the country, and its people. Asif Mahmud wished Tarique Rahman success in his future political journey, hoping it would prove beneficial and welfare-oriented for the country and its citizens.

Tarique Rahman returned home after 17 years in exile. A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying him from London landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11:40 am via Sylhet. Upon arrival, he was accorded a warm reception and emotional greetings. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with party standing committee members, greeted the acting chairman and accorded a reception at the VVIP lounge of the airport.

Following airport proceedings, Tarique Rahman commenced his journey to the 36 Expressway (300-Foot Road) venue by bus amid tight security. Before this, he touched down the soil with dew-dropped grasses barefoot and grasped a fist of soil, bringing it to his nose and sniffing it emotionally. A motorcade escorted his bus to the venue as millions of people standing on both sides of the airport road welcomed him with chanting slogans.

Later, Tarique Rahman attended a public event at the July 36 expressway and addressed thousands of people. Walking along the route to Evercare Hospital, he waved to the crowd, acknowledging their unwavering support.
