Dhaka: Christmas Day, commemorating the birthday of Jesus Christ, was celebrated today with religious fervor and festivity across various districts of Bangladesh. Special prayers were offered at churches, adorned with illuminations, while makeshift Christmas trees were set up at homes, churches, and mission centers nationwide to mark this significant religious festival for the Christian community.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in Tangail, the Christmas Day festivities unfolded with enthusiasm, particularly in the Madhupur region. The main celebration took place at the Jalchhatra Christ Dharmapalli Church, where Church President Pastor Nirjan Sim Song emphasized the life and humanitarian ideals of Jesus Christ during a special program. He encouraged self-purification among devotees and wished for a peaceful and happy new year.

Local religious leader Samnom Nakret addressed the gathering, urging the Christian community to adhere to the teachings of Jesus Christ through mutual love, compassion, and peaceful coexistence. Hymns and congregational music were performed in praise of Jesus following the prayers. The district was adorned with colorful lights and ornaments in churches and Christian households.

Traditional Pitha festivals were organized in several villages, including Mominpur, Jalchhatra, Idilpur, Pirgachha, Sainamari, and Dharati in Madhupur. Celebrations began with cake-cutting ceremonies at various places of worship on Wednesday night, followed by groups performing kirtan as part of the festivities.
