Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today emphasized the necessity of unity among all anti-anarchy political and social forces to counteract elements that are attempting to destabilize the nation. He stressed the importance of collective efforts to safeguard the country, which was achieved through significant sacrifices.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul made these remarks during a press conference held after a BNP Standing Committee meeting, chaired by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. He underscored that the same unity which previously led to the fall of fascism and facilitated the formation of an interim government should be revitalized to thwart current conspiracies.
Fakhrul called for all patriotic forces to unite once more in order to protect the nation and democracy. He expressed deep sorrow over the death of Inquilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, who died while receiving treatment in Singapore. Fakhrul condemned the murder and demanded the immediate arrest and trial of those responsible.
The BNP Secretary General also highlighted incidents following Hadi’s death, including the arson attacks on newspaper offices such as Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, which endangered journalists’ lives. Additionally, he noted the attack on New Age editor Nurul Kabir and cultural institutions like Chhayanat.
Fakhrul alleged that these incidents were orchestrated by a known group aiming to push the country toward anarchy by undermining democratic rights and imposing a new form of fascism. He criticized the government’s response to these events as unsatisfactory.
He concluded that these actions appear to be part of a broader conspiracy to disrupt the upcoming national election, potentially damaging the democratic transition process and tarnishing the country’s image both domestically and internationally.
