Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul today said there is no reason for confusion over the upcoming parliamentary election. He stated that the interim government is fully committed to holding the election in early February and all necessary measures will be taken to ensure a festive and peaceful atmosphere during the polls.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Asif Nazrul made the remarks while replying to questions from journalists after a views-exchange meeting with judges at the Legal Aid Office in the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court Building this morning. He emphasized that there is no issue to delay the election, affirming that it will be held on time. Nazrul added that need-based steps will be taken to create a festive election environment.

He observed that political parties often make remarks to exert pressure on each other, which creates confusion among the general people. Despite this, he acknowledged some level of anxiety among people due to the absence of national elections for the past 16 to 17 years. Nazrul highlighted the significance of the upcoming election for over five crore people who have been unable to vote during that period, noting their eagerness to exercise their voting rights.

Referring to the judicial system and bail, the Law Adviser mentioned that granting bail depends not only on judges but also on the police report. He stated that bail is permissible where a person is eligible, but emphasized special caution in cases where individuals might reoffend or join outlawed gangs post-bail.

Dr Asif Nazrul also addressed court reforms, noting that more judges are being appointed to increase dynamism in court activities. In some areas, three judges are assigned to cases previously handled by just one, aiming to reduce the pressure on the courts. “We are taking diversified steps in court reformation, and the people will surely benefit from them,” he added.
