Dhaka: The government is set to procure 700,000 metric tons of rice and paddy from the ongoing Aman season to ensure fair prices for farmers and maintain a stable food buffer. This procurement initiative is expected to provide economic support to farmers while securing a stable supply of rice for the country.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the targeted procurement includes 600,000 metric tons of parboiled rice, 50,000 metric tons of atap rice, and an additional 50,000 metric tons of paddy. The procurement prices have been strategically set at Taka 50 per kg for parboiled rice, Taka 49 per kg for atap rice, and Taka 34 per kg for paddy.

Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder announced the decision after a meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee, which took place at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed. During a briefing, Ali Imam Majumder emphasized that the price levels were determined with the farmers’ interests as a priority. “The procurement prices have been determined in a way that covers production costs and ensures farmers receive a reasonable profit,” he stated.

The Aman procurement drive is scheduled to commence on 20 November 2025 and will continue until February of the following year. This initiative aims to support farmers during the harvesting period while contributing to the country’s food security strategy.
