BNP Observes National Revolution and Solidarity Day with Nationwide Events

Dhaka: The “National Revolution and Solidarity Day,” marking the civil-military uprising of November 7, 1975, was observed across the country in a befitting manner to celebrate the momentous emergence of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman as a statesman. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) commemorated the day through elaborate programmes, including discussions and other events.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the party flag was hoisted at all BNP offices across the country this morning. Senior leaders laid wreaths and offered “fateha” at the grave of late president and party founder Ziaur Rahman at 10:00 am. In the afternoon, BNP’s Dhaka north and South City units organized a procession from the party’s Nayapaltan central office at 3:00 pm, with all district and upazila units conducting similar programmes nationwide.



In addition, BNP’s associate bodies and local units held events such as discussions, cultural programmes, photo exhibitions, documentary screenings, and the distribution of educational materials among orphan students. The party plans to hold a central discussion on November 12 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital.



In a Facebook post yesterday, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman stated that the soldier-people revolution of November 7 marked a pivotal moment in Bangladesh’s history and the start of nationalist politics opposing imperialism. He emphasized the revolution’s role in preserving the nation’s sovereignty.



Tarique highlighted the day when soldiers and citizens, driven by patriotism, took to the streets to protect national independence and restore democracy. He urged all nationalist forces to unite in the spirit of November 7 to build a strong democracy, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding national independence and sovereignty.



After paying tribute at the tomb of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir remarked that the rise to power of Ziaur Rahman through the Sepoy-People’s Revolution was a turning point for the country. He called for unity to thwart malicious attempts and conspiracies against democracy in the spirit of November 7.



On November 7, 1975, thousands took to the streets of Dhaka and beyond to celebrate the emergence of Ziaur Rahman as a statesman. Citizens and soldiers united in spontaneous processions, chanting slogans of unity and support for Ziaur Rahman. This day marked a new journey for Bangladesh, breaking free from geopolitical, expansionist, and neo-colonial conspiracies.



The revolution of November 7, 1975, brought a new dawn of hope, heralding the evolution of a self-dignified Bangladeshi culture and identity. Despite numerous conspiracies over the years, Ziaur Rahman secured a permanent place in the people’s hearts.
