Jashore: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir declared today that the public will not tolerate any conspiracy to disrupt the upcoming election. Speaking at a commemorative meeting at the Jashore Town Hall ground, marking the 7th death anniversary of former BNP standing committee member Tariqul Islam, Fakhrul emphasized the importance of maintaining stability and ensuring the democratic process.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul stated, “Attempts are being made to create an unstable environment in the country. They are trying to foil the election. They are trying to postpone the election. The people will not accept this.” He reminded the audience of the sacrifices made for the country’s independence and the need to safeguard the democratic system.
Addressing the responsibilities of political parties, Fakhrul remarked, “We have demonstrated a great deal of responsibility. We have not yet taken to the streets over any issue. You must remember that BNP is not a party that came from nowhere, BNP is a party built by the people of this country.” He also underscored the necessity of holding the general referendum alongside the national parliament election.
Fakhrul urged other political parties to refrain from actions that could lead to national instability, emphasizing the hardships endured by many, including legal cases against millions and the loss of thousands of lives. He warned against any attempts to gain political advantage at the cost of the country’s stability.
Highlighting BNP’s historical significance, Fakhrul stated, “BNP is the party of the late President and proclaimer of Independence, Major General Ziaur Rahman. BNP is the party of the uncompromising leader Begum Khaleda Zia, who struggled with her life for democracy.” He cautioned against threatening the BNP, citing the sacrifices of its members in the anti-fascist movement.
The BNP leader called for the immediate announcement of the election schedule and the implementation of previously decided reforms. He criticized the consensus commission for alleged bias and questioned its actions, insisting that BNP has continually engaged with the commission to express its views.
The commemorative meeting, chaired by Syed Saberul Haque, President of Jashore District BNP, featured speeches from BNP candidates for Jashore’s five constituencies. Fakhrul introduced the party candidates and urged party leaders and activists to unite for electoral success. The meeting was conducted by Delowar Hossain, District BNP General Secretary.
