Restaurant Fined Tk 50,000 in Magura for Unhygienic Conditions

Magura: The National Consumer Rights Protection Department has fined ‘Sonar Bangla Hotel’ Taka 50,000 for preparing and storing food in unhygienic conditions at Bhaina crossing area of Sadar upazila.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the inspection was carried out from 12:30 pm to 2 pm, targeting various shops, including hotels and grocery stores. During the inspection, several irregularities were identified at Sonar Bangla Hotel. The kitchen was found to be damp and dirty, employees were not adhering to hygiene rules, and food was stored openly on the floor.



Despite previous instructions from the Consumer Rights and Food Safety Authority, the hotel showed no improvement in its hygiene practices. Consequently, hotel owner Md. Wazir Biswas was fined Taka 50,000 under Section 43 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009.



The operation was led by Sajal Ahmed, Assistant Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, Magura District Office, with District Food Safety Officer Suman Adhikari present during the drive. The department has indicated that such inspections will continue in the future.
