Dhaka: Senior Secretary of the Land Ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed emphasized the importance of land in fulfilling basic human needs and advancing sustainable development during the inauguration of the ‘140th Survey and Settlement Training Course’ at Karim Jute Mills Limited.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Secretary highlighted that the Ministry of Land has transitioned from a traditional paper-based system to a fully digital one, with all services now accessible online. However, he acknowledged that service recipients are still adapting to these digital methods, prompting the establishment of over 1,000 land service centres to facilitate this transition.

Saleh Ahmed noted that while land remains a natural resource, its usage patterns have evolved with advancements in civilization and science. He affirmed that reforms in land management practices are ongoing to keep pace with these changes.

The Secretary emphasized that the training course will equip participants with knowledge of land laws and modern tools like drones for conducting digital land surveys. He mentioned that digital surveys are currently being piloted in 32 upazilas across five districts.

The training, which brings together officers from BCS (Administration, Police, Forest, Railway) and Judicial Service, aims to enhance coordination and cooperation among state officials, Ahmed stated. He announced plans to make the course mandatory for administration cadres and shared efforts to establish a dedicated Survey and Settlement Training Academy.

Md. Saidur Rahman, Director General of the Land Records and Survey Department, presided over the event. Course Director Md. Mominur Rashid delivered the welcome speech, with Director Md. Kamrul Arif also addressing the attendees.
