Chattogram: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) coach Mizanur Rahman Babul believes that opener Naim Sheikh’s preference for attacking shots has hindered his ability to score significantly on his return to the national team. Naim was reinstated into the national fold after three years due to consistent performances in the domestic circuit, yet he struggled to justify his selection upon his return.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Naim participated in three T20 matches after his return, facing Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Despite an unbeaten 32 against Sri Lanka, his strike rate raised concerns. His performances against Pakistan were more lackluster, with scores of just 3 and 10. Babul commented on the challenges Naim faced, particularly with the slow wickets not suiting his attacking style. He emphasized the necessity for adaptation, stating that international cricket demands versatility across varying pitch conditions.
Babul also discussed pacer Mushfik Hasan, who made a comeback to competitive cricket in a match between HP and Bangladesh A in Chattogram following an injury. According to coach Babul, Mushfik is a promising talent in Bangladesh’s cricket landscape, highlighting his exceptional bowling skills. Babul noted that despite Mushfik’s recent recovery from a prolonged injury, he is being carefully monitored, and his fitness appears robust.
Babul praised Mushfik’s attitude and body language, underscoring his commitment and 100 percent effort in both bowling and fielding. The coach expressed optimism about Mushfik’s potential as a future star for Bangladesh cricket.
