London: Bangladesh has ramped up its efforts in collaboration with UK authorities to recover stolen funds, according to Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam. Alam emphasized the complexity and time-consuming nature of asset recovery during a press briefing in London on Wednesday.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Alam highlighted that the interim government has accelerated its initiatives to retrieve the stolen money. He reported that Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen and Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H Mansur are accompanying Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on his London visit.

Alam explained that the ACC chief and the central bank governor have had a meeting with the UK’s national crimes agency to discuss asset recovery strategies. The crime agency has expertise in tracing asset laundering and recovering stolen assets, and has already initiated two actions towards this goal.

The press secretary added that they are also engaging in discussions
to understand how other countries have successfully reclaimed stolen assets. Furthermore, Chief Adviser Prof Yunus addressed the asset recovery issue during a meeting with UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell.

In addition to asset recovery, the discussions with Powell included topics such as the Rohingya crisis, Bangladesh’s efforts in consensus-building, and the pursuit of regional peace and stability in South Asia.
