BAU Celebrates World Milk Day with 2,500 Students Participating in Festivities

Mymensingh: Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) celebrated World Milk Day for the 13th consecutive year, focusing on the theme “Let’s Celebrate the Power of Milk.” The event began at 10 am, with 2,500 students from various schools on the university campus receiving milk as a part of the celebration.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the formal inauguration of the event took place with the release of balloons by Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Haque in front of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry. A colorful rally followed, concluding at the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Auditorium after parading through the university’s main roads. A seminar on the significance of milk and the dairy industry was held at noon, chaired by Professor Dr. A.K.M. Masum, Head of the Department of Dairy Science.



The event hosted distinguished guests such as Professor Dr. Md. Ruhul Amin, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry; Rebecca Sharmin, Head of Regulatory and Scientific Affairs at Nestl© Bangladesh; as well as several esteemed academics, including retired Professor Dr. M.A. Samad Khan, retired Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, and Professor Dr. Md. Abul Hashem, President of the Bangladesh Animal Husbandry Association.



Professor Dr. Md. Harun-Ur-Rashid, Convener of the World Milk Day Celebration Committee, delivered the welcome address, while the keynote presentation was made by Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashikul Islam, member secretary of the committee. In his remarks, Acting Vice-Chancellor Dr. Shahidul Haque emphasized milk’s role as the first and most essential food for every newborn, describing it as a “perfect food” that supports physical, mental, and intellectual growth.



Dr. Haque encouraged parents to move children away from junk and fast food, advocating for milk and dairy products instead. He noted the importance of milk in building a healthy, intelligent, and knowledgeable generation and expressed hope that Bangladesh will soon implement school meal programs that include milk, as seen in many other countries.
