Gaibandha: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 has successfully apprehended a fugitive, Md Sohel, who had been sentenced to two years in prison in connection with a fraud case. The arrest took place on Sunday, bringing an end to his prolonged evasion of law enforcement.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md Sohel, 45, is the son of Md Badiuzzaman from Samajpara Taluk Kanupur village in the Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district. He was wanted in a fraud case filed at the Laksmipur Sadar police station in Laksmipur district under sections 406 and 420 of the Penal Code. The case dates back to July 9, 2010, when Sohel began absconding to avoid arrest.
In absentia, a court in Laksmipur sentenced Sohel to two years in prison with an additional year in default of paying a fine of Taka 10,000. A warrant was issued for his arrest following the sentencing.
An operational team from the Crime Prevention Company (CPC)-3 of RAB-13, based at the Gaibandha Camp, conducted a raid that led to Sohel's arrest at his residence in Samajpara Taluk Kanupur village at 2:30 pm on Sunday. The press release confirmed that the arrested individual has been transferred to the Laksmipur Sadar police station for further legal proceedings.
