Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today directed relevant authorities to promptly implement the immediate recommendations of the Health Sector Reform Commission, emphasizing their significance in addressing the persistent issues within the country’s healthcare system. He issued these directives following the commission’s submission of its report at the State Guest House Jamuna.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Yunus described the report as a groundbreaking measure, expressing hope that resolving the longstanding health sector problems through the commission’s recommendations would be transformative. He highlighted the shortage of doctors as a critical issue, noting that even when doctors are available, they are often not present where they are most needed.

Professor Yunus stressed the importance of decentralizing the medical system to effectively address these challenges. “Without this, the problem cannot be solved. It must be ensured that doctors are staying in the stations where they are posted,” he stated.

The commission’s report was delivered to Professor Yunus by its members, led by Chief Professor AK Azad Khan, at around 11 am. The delegation included Prof Md Muhammad Zakir Hossain, Prof Dr Liaquat Ali, Prof Dr Sayera Akther, MM Reza, Dr Azharul Islam, Dr Syed Md Akram Hossain, Prof Dr Syed Atiqul Haque, Dr Ahmed Ahsanur Rahman, and Omair Afif. Additionally, Prof Dr Naila Zaman Khan and Prof Dr Muzaherul Huq are also members of the commission.
