Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) announced today that Italy has shown interest in recruiting more skilled manpower from Bangladesh. “Italy is interested in taking more skilled and trained workers from Bangladesh legally,” Jahangir stated after a bilateral meeting with Matteo Piantedosi, the Interior Affairs Minister of Italy, at the conference room of the Home Ministry at Bangladesh Secretariat.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Matteo Piantedosi arrived in Dhaka for a two-day official visit. Jahangir emphasized the hard-working nature of Bangladeshi workers and their significant contribution to Italy’s economy. He highlighted Italy’s interest in legally recruiting skilled workers from Bangladesh, while discouraging illegal migration through other countries.

Jahangir noted Italy’s request for Bangladesh’s cooperation in curbing illegal immigration and human trafficking. The two countries aim to work closely to tackle these issues, with the Home Adviser requesting the Italian minister to consider legalizing Bangladeshis already residing illegally in Italy.

When questioned about the attack on NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah, Jahangir mentioned that 54 individuals have been apprehended. He assured that no leniency would be shown to perpetrators of such incidents.

The meeting covered topics such as the prevention of illegal immigration, policies against immigration-related crime networks, and strengthening bilateral cooperation in crime prevention and justice processes. It also discussed bilateral security cooperation agreements, as stated in a press release from the Home Ministry.

The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Home Ministry Md. Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, Senior Secretary Nasimul Ghani, and other officials from Bangladesh. Representing Italy were Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro, Diplomatic Adviser Marco Villani, Deputy Head of Cabinet Sabina Madaro, and Central Director of Immigration and Border Police Claudio Galzerano.
