Dhaka: The Youth Festival 2025, introduced by the present government for the first time, was held earlier this year with significant enthusiasm and record participation of athletes from across the country. The festival saw substantial engagement from both male and female athletes, with a focus on promoting sports and cultural activities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, center-back Topu Barman believes that the Festival of Youth is a strategic initiative by the government to advance sports development. In a conversation with BSS, Topu stated, “Definitely this is a positive step taken by the present government to take the sports towards development. I think it’ll not only encourage the budding athletes but also encourage their family because when they get a big platform at such a young age, I think it’ll enhance their interest in sports.”
Topu pointed out that young athletes, especially those residing outside Dhaka, show a keen interest in sports like football, cricket, and hockey. He noted that if the Festival of Youth continues, it could yield benefits at both national and international levels in the future.
He further emphasized the importance of quality training for athletes initially selected from the Festival of Youth. Topu remarked, “Basic techniques need to be learned at a young age and I think the ‘Festival of Youth’ can be a right platform to learn this skill so that better players can come out for the country.”
Topu reiterated the positive impact of the government’s decision to introduce the Festival of Youth, stressing the need for such events to continue in order to nurture more talented players for the country.
