Stay Strong in Performing Duties: CA Asks Police

Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today emphasized the importance of resilience among police officers as they face increasing pressures with the upcoming election. “As the election is approaching, various problems will emerge and pressure will come from different quarters…but you (police) should stay firm,” he remarked during a special meeting with senior police officials focused on law and order at his office.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Yunus highlighted that the government plans to hold elections by December this year, stressing that all necessary preparations must be completed by then. He asserted the need for police to adhere to legal frameworks to prevent the re-emergence of disorder in the country.



Prof Yunus underscored the vital role of the police as foundational elements in building a new Bangladesh, noting that they are crucial for any government effort to succeed. He engaged with field-level police officers, providing guidance on maintaining law and order, while acknowledging the interim government’s limited timeframe before the elections.



He reaffirmed the indispensable role of the police in upholding governance, democracy, human rights, and citizen rights, emphasizing that all government initiatives hinge on the police’s ability to establish a conducive environment for implementation. Prof Yunus pledged to address ongoing issues faced by the police, urging them to demonstrate their significance in creating a New Bangladesh through their actions.



The Chief Adviser also called on the police to serve as allies to the public, advocating for the protection of women and minorities and ensuring their rights. Additionally, he instructed police to take measures against any propaganda undermining the country.



The meeting also featured remarks from Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Secretary Nasimul Gani, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, as well as contributions from field-level officials, including Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Chattogram Range Ahsan Habib Palash and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Rajshahi Farzana Islam. Approximately 127 SPs and senior officers participated in this significant gathering.
