Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today sought the support of the United Nations (UN) for combating misinformation. “We need your blessings, we need your support particularly in one thing – misinformation that is killing us,” he told an Iftar party at Hotel InterContinental here this evening.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chief Adviser hosted the Iftar party in honor of the visiting United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. Prof Yunus expressed that while people work hard to make their dreams come true, there are those who attempt to undermine these efforts. He emphasized, “Protect us from misinformation and we can do the rest.”
Discussing national unity, the Chief Adviser highlighted the unique unity fostered by students among all segments of the population in the country. He noted that while there may be disagreements on various issues, the collective aspiration to create a New Bangladesh remains untouched.
Prof Yunus referred to a recent student protest as historical
, stating that the students, though unarmed, courageously stood up for their freedom and the sovereignty of their nation. “It is our new Bangladesh,” he remarked, underscoring the significance of their movement.
Reflecting on the UN chief’s visit to Bangladesh, Prof Yunus expressed that it brought joy to the nation. “We are halfway through Ramadan, but your visit started Eid earlier this time. You made the Eid begin now with your visit,” the Chief Adviser said.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres also addressed the gathering, offering his perspectives on the occasion.
