Rangpur: Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali announced today that steps would be taken to ensure proper treatment for the university’s students injured in the July-August uprising. ‘We have tried from the very beginning to provide treatment to the injured. In view of this, a committee was formed by the university to ensure the list of students injured in the July mass uprising,’ he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the committee identified 39 injured students with the aim of providing necessary medical services. Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali expressed gratitude to Rangpur Medical College for providing advice and necessary treatment to the injured students. The announcement came following interviews with the injured students of BRUR before the five-member medical board formed at Rangpur Medical College Hospital today.
On the second day, the injured students presented their various physical and health problems to the specialist doctors of Rangpur Medical College. Rangpur Medical College Principal (Acting) Professor Dr Md Shariful Islam stated, ‘We are blessed to be able to provide medical assistance and advice to the students injured in the July uprising.’ He emphasized that the college is prepared to offer medical support to the injured students at any time in the future.
Earlier, a five-member medical board was established to ensure medical care for students injured during the anti-discrimination student movement. The board met with 17 injured students on January 29, providing necessary instructions regarding further treatment as needed. Similarly, the remaining injured students of BRUR presented their health concerns to the medical board today. Present at the time were the Director of the Office of the Student Affairs Professor Dr Md Ileas Pramanik, Deputy Chief Medical Officer of BRUR Medical Center Dr AM Shahriar, along with other doctors and the injured BRUR students.
