Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Nahid Islam announced the government’s intention to implement significant reforms in the state structure to permanently eradicate fascism. Speaking at a function organized by the Bangladesh Sanbadik Kallayan Trust, Nahid emphasized the necessity of these reforms to prevent any potential resurgence of fascist elements in the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nahid stressed that maintaining the existing state structure poses a risk for the reemergence of fascism. The event, held at the Trust’s Circuit House Road office, involved the distribution of donation cheques to families of journalists who were martyred or injured during the July uprising, as well as to sick and financially struggling media personnel and scholarships for their children.
Nahid, who also serves as the Chairman of the trust, reiterated the importance of state reform, declaring it a crucial step in preventing the revival of fascism. He noted that any future government must operate on this foundational principle of state reform. Furthermore, Nahid highlighted the need for the trial of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her allies to ensure justice, reflecting on the past 15 years and advocating for unity despite differences among political parties.
He urged journalists to engage in objective journalism amid a period of transformation in the country, warning against the spread of distorted information by those trying to exploit the situation. Nahid affirmed the government’s commitment to press freedom but cautioned against any attempts by fascist supporters to regain influence.
The event was also attended by key figures such as Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana, Trust Managing Director Muhammad Abdullah, and representatives from various media organizations, who contributed to the dialogue on maintaining justice and reform in the nation’s governance.
